Mass layoffs at Google

Following the recent trend among tech companies, Google announced mass layoffs, citing the current economic situation. I don’t know if I’m affected in Europe because worker protection and labor laws apply some breaks on executive decisions affecting employees.

I love working with my team at Google; I’ve been with the same team for almost nine years and would like to stay longer. But, at the same time, the scale and way the layoffs have been made across the company (and industry) while we’re still profitable serve as good reminders that one shouldn’t identify with their job. Employment is a contract, not a measure of someone’s worth.
